Synthetic Turf International Completes Synthetic Lawn Installation
US Olympic Bobsled Coach Believes Childproofing Home isn’t Limited to Indoors

Naples, Florida

November 21, 2006, Jupiter, FL—Synthetic Turf International (STI), a global synthetic turf supplier and installer of premium synthetic putting greens and related synthetic surfaces, recently completed installation of a lawn and play area at the Naples, Florida, residence of the United States Men’s Olympic Bobsled Driving Coach Brian Shimer.

As the parents of a toddler, Shimer and his wife, Ann Marie, are continually looking for ways to childproof their home.  To the Shimers creating a safe environment outside the home is as important as inside.  “Living in South Florida means year-round outdoor playtime.  And we wanted our children to have a safe place to play,” states Brian Shimer.  “Our primary concerns were pesticides, fertilizers and insects,” he continued.  “We didn’t want our children exposed to harmful chemicals and Florida’s red ants were also a serious worry.  STI’s synthetic turf provides the perfect solution to our problems.  The shock absorption of the synthetic surface was an added bonus.”

The project was completed utilizing STI’s distinctive SoftLawn synthetic turf. SoftLawn is a natural-looking, lifelike synthetic turf used in lawn and playground applications.  Materials used in SoftLawn are environmentally responsible in application and disposability.  Virtually maintenance free, it requires no chemical treatment.

SoftLawn’s ecological benefits were also important to the Shimers.  Brian Shimer comments, “Water restrictions make the switch to synthetic turf an investment in the future.    Synthetic turf doesn’t require an irrigation system.  With natural grass we were constantly dealing with continuous run off from sprinklers and rain.  This caused a considerable amount of erosion of the seawall behind our house.  During the construction of the lawn areas we installed French drains.  The drains prevent erosion by allowing excess water to drain into the turf.  We’ve encountered no negatives by switching to a synthetic lawn, only positives.”

Founded in 1995 and headquartered in Jupiter, Florida, STI is the industry leader, supplying synthetic putting greens and related synthetic surfaces to country clubs, public and private golf  clubs, teaching facilities and short game academies. The company holds longstanding endorsement relationships with David Leadbetter and Jim McLean, two of the golf industry’s best known and most sought after instructors. STI also supplies synthetic surfaces for other sports, such as football, soccer, lacrosse, baseball, lawn bowling, bocce and other sports utilizing play fields.
