Synthetic Turf International Creates Urban Golf Escape
The Summit at Las Colinas Encompasses First of Its Kind Putting Course
Irving, Texas
May, 2006, Jupiter, FL—Synthetic Turf International (STI), a global synthetic turf supplier and installer of premium synthetic putting greens and related synthetic surfaces, recently completed installation of a synthetic putting course in downtown Irving, Texas.
Lushly landscaped, the unique five-hole putting course was constructed utilizing STI’s exclusive NP50 nylon putting surface and Zoysia SoftLawnTN fringe. STI’s nylon putting surface allows golfers of all levels to develop their touch and technique through true roll characteristics found in select professional greens. All of STI’s synthetic surfaces provide virtually maintenance-free durability with a natural look and feel.
Located at 545 East John Carpenter Freeway, the 4,000 square foot putting course was installed atop a concrete loading dock deck adjacent to The Summit at Las Colinas, a 19-story office high rise. Global real estate services giant CB Richard Ellis (CBRE) recently purchased the building. The course was just one of many extensive renovations and architectural improvements made to the building and surrounding property by Dallas-based Staffelbach Design Associates. When initially assessing the project, Staffelbach project manager Gordon Gayda thought the area presented the ideal setting for a rooftop-type garden with a putting green. STI ultimately designed and installed the putting course while landscape architect Mike Brown of Precision Landscaping came up with a design for an ornamental garden integrated into the course. The putting course has been a hit with The Summit’s tenants. “All the tenants are having a good time with it.” stated Gayda. “Give them your name as a tenant and they (CBRE) hands you a ball and a putter. It’s a great feature.”
Commenting on the project, STI President William Campbell states, “The urban setting of this project adds to its uniqueness. The location and size of this project required our design team to create an innovative layout, maximizing space. This putting course’s contours and shape are demonstrative of how STI works with each client individually to facilitate a project that meets their specific needs.”
Founded in 1995 and headquartered in Jupiter, Florida, STI is the industry leader, supplying synthetic putting greens and related synthetic surfaces to country clubs, public and private golf clubs, teaching facilities and short game academies.
