Burning Tree Club Golf Course Renovates Tee Line
Synthetic Turf International’s E Z Tee Makes Over Driving Range
Tee Line Alternative Updates Historic Club
MAY, 2006, Jupiter, FL—Synthetic Turf International (STI), a global synthetic turf supplier and installer of premium synthetic putting greens and related synthetic surfaces, recently completed a driving range renovation project at Bethesda, Maryland’s exclusive Burning Tree Club golf course.
The project consisted of installing a 4,300 square foot driving range tee line with STI’s innovative E Z Tee system, a naturalistic synthetic turf designed specifically for driving range tee lines. Golfers can hit “off the deck”, down and through the ball, and can also use a regulation golf tee placed in the E Z Tee surface. In addition to the realistic playability of E Z Tee, Burning Tree’s membership also benefits from the cost-effectiveness of the synthetic alternative. E Z Tee’s surface enables continuous use, eliminating the need to relocate and reseed driving range areas. The driving range is not Burning Tree’s only renovation as of late.
Originally designed by golf course architect Alister Mackenzie, the course was recently updated by award-winning golf course architect Arthur Hills.
Commenting on the project, STI President William Campbell states, “This is a special project. Burning Tree Club is an institution. The Club is one of Maryland’s finest and the country’s most exclusive. Burning Tree’s members are discerning and our product meets their exacting specifications.”
Founded in 1923, Burning Tree Club is an eighteen hole private, men-only golf club located just inside the Washington, D.C., beltway. A member of one of golf’s oldest amateur organizations, the Mid-Atlantic Golf Association, Burning Tree remains quietly but resolutely among the 25 remaining all-male clubs in the United States. Burning Tree is a place where Presidents once played. Dwight Eisenhower played the course so often that a hotline was established, connecting the White House to the pro shop. Former Presidents John Kennedy, Richard Nixon, Lyndon Johnson and Gerald Ford were also Burning Tree members. Membership is limited to 250.
Founded in 1995 and headquartered in Jupiter, Florida, STI is the industry leader, supplying synthetic putting greens and related synthetic surfaces to country clubs, public and private golf clubs, teaching facilities and short game academies. The company holds longstanding endorsement relationships with David Leadbetter and Jim McLean, two of the golf industry’s best known and most sought after instructors. STI also supplies synthetic surfaces for other sports, such as football, soccer, lacrosse, baseball, lawn bowling, bocce and other sports utilizing play fields.
STI has a comprehensive network of distributor partners, throughout the United States, Canada, Germany, France, Spain, England and South Africa.
