University of Nebraska Student Body Asks for Golf Practice Area
Synthetic Turf International Answers with Synthetic Putting and Chipping Course

Lincoln, Nebraska

September 28, 2006, Jupiter, FL—Synthetic Turf International (STI), a global synthetic turf supplier and installer of premium synthetic putting greens and related synthetic surfaces, recently completed the installation of a 3,300 square foot synthetic putting course with chipping area at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln.

The project was completed at the request and expense of the University’s student body.  Campus recreation areas were demolished to make way for new student housing.  In order to determine what types of student recreation to rebuild, the Office of Campus Recreation obtained input from many groups and organizations.  The students overwhelmingly requested a putting green.  The project is funded by student fees.

Designed to produce the same subtleties and character as a traditional golf course, the six-hole putting course is situated on-campus between three student dormitories.  Constructed of STI’s exclusive nylon NP 50 putting surface, the putting course features a challenging and unique layout. Designed to match a natural putting green’s roll of 10 or 11 on the Stimp meter, STI’s synthetic green allows players to develop their touch and technique through true roll characteristics found in select professional greens.  The unique putting course design includes challenging undulations up to two feet in elevation, formed from the top down during construction.  The putting course is surrounded by STI’s Softlawn Tipede synthetic turf.  Softlawn’s resilient surface provides the ideal setting for students to practice their short-game while its multi-directional blades provide a life-like appearance. The putting course also incorporates botanical hedge-style landscaping and paver-stone walkways.

University Grounds Supervisor Chad Hansen commented, “STI is a phenomenal company.  They did an excellent job and the service they provided was unbelievable,” Hansen states.  “Within days of our initial call a vice president of operations was on campus with drawings.  Now we have a beautiful green.  They are right on top of their game.”

Chartered in 1869, the University of Nebraska–Lincoln is one of the nation's leading teaching institutions.  The University has a current enrollment of 22,000 students, including 3,800 graduate students.  Located a mere 600 yards from the Cornhusker’s Memorial Stadium, approximately 81,000 Husker fans will pass the putting course en route to the stadium on game day.

Founded in 1995 and headquartered in Jupiter, Florida, STI is the industry leader, supplying synthetic putting greens and related synthetic surfaces to country clubs, public and private golf  clubs, teaching facilities and short game academies. The company holds longstanding endorsement relationships with David Leadbetter and Jim McLean, two of the golf industry’s best known and most sought after instructors. STI also supplies synthetic surfaces for other sports, such as football, soccer, lacrosse, baseball, lawn bowling, bocce and other sports utilizing play fields.
