Synthetic Turf International Completes Indoor Teaching Facility
Paul Holtby, PGA Professional, Utilizes Synthetic Putting Green and Driving Surface

Golf Channel’s Big Break IV Winner Chooses STI

May 22, 2006, Jupiter, FL—Synthetic Turf International (STI), a global synthetic turf supplier and installer of premium synthetic putting greens and related synthetic surfaces, recently completed installation of a synthetic putting green at the instructional facility of Simi Valley, California, PGA teaching professional Paul Holtby.  Paul Holtby is the winner of the Golf Channel’s hit reality show, Big Break IV and is a veteran of the game.  Holtby is a PGA Class “A” member with 15 years’ experience as a professional in addition to being an instructor at the Tom Barber Golf Center in Moorepark, California.   The project was facilitated in conjunction with Pioneer Golf of Thousand Oaks, California.  Pioneer Golf’s President, Keith Thykeson, is also a PGA golf professional.  Five years ago he partnered with fellow PGA golf professional and course designer Corey Aurand to form Pioneer.  Today, Thykeson still serves as a teaching professional and instructor at Tarzana, California’s, El Caballero Country Club.

The project encompassed installation of an indoor putting green, custom-made indoor hitting mat and hitting net.  The putting green was constructed with STI’s exclusive nylon NP 50 turf and Zoysia SoftLawnTN product.  With a consistent read of a 10 or 1l on the Stimp meter, STI’s synthetic green allows students to develop touch and technique through true roll characteristics found in professional natural grass greens.  Constructed with STI’s innovative E Z Tee surface, designed specifically for driving range tee lines, the custom-made hitting mat permits year-round instruction.  E Z Tee’s unique design allows students to hit directly off the mat or from a standard wooden golf tee.

Commenting on the project, STI President William Campbell states, “An indoor facility such as this is the perfect venue for STI’s putting surface and E Z Tee system.  Students benefit by experiencing the true roll of a professional-grade green.  And the E Z Tee surface is forgiving, allowing students to groove their swing without the jarring ‘grab’ exhibited by typical synthetic tee line surfaces.”

Founded in 1995 and headquartered in Jupiter, Florida, STI is the industry leader, supplying synthetic putting greens and related synthetic surfaces to country clubs, public and private golf  clubs, teaching facilities and short game academies. The company holds longstanding endorsement relationships with David Leadbetter and Jim McLean, two of the golf industry’s best known and most sought after instructors. STI also supplies synthetic surfaces for other sports, such as football, soccer, lacrosse, baseball, lawn bowling, bocce and other sports utilizing play fields.
